Jingzhe

In ancient China, Jingzhe was further divided into three periods: "First period: peach blossoms begin to bloom; second period: the oriole (yellow bird) sings; third period: the eagle transforms into a wild goose."

Jingzhe is the 3rd solar term in the 24 solar terms. Jingzhe means: spring thunder begins to sound, awakening insects hibernating underground. At this time, the weather has warmed and spring thunder gradually appears.

Solar Term Customs

On Jingzhe day, one can vigorously stomp on paper effigies with shoes to dispel slander and seek a smooth year ahead.

The main customs of the Jingzhe festival include worshiping the White Tiger, driving away insects, frying insects, stamping on paper effigies, and eating pears.

  Jingzhe Health Preservation

Daily Life

Clothing Focus on keeping warm, especially protecting the knees from cold.

Diet Eat more light foods such as glutinous rice, sesame, honey, dairy products, tofu, vegetables, and sugarcane.

Daily Routine It should differ from winter: go to bed late and get up early, sleep before 11 p.m., and wake up between 5 and 7 a.m. with the sun, aligning with the sun’s movement to help absorb yang energy.

Many people experience fatigue, dry eyes, poor appetite, insomnia with dreams, irritability in spring; these symptoms are external signs of liver problems.

   Liver Care Tips

1. Eat less sour and more sweet foods: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that people with excessive liver fire should eat more sweet foods in spring.

2. Move more, sit less: Brisk walking is the most suitable exercise for March. Exercise reduces excess weight, eliminates harmful fat affecting the liver, and accelerates blood circulation to supply the liver with more oxygen and nutrients.

  3. Rest on time: According to traditional Chinese meridian theory, the liver meridian runs from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., so it is best to sleep peacefully during this time.

Jingzhe Health Foods

Spring is the golden season for eating chives! At this time, chives are freshest and most delicious.

Here are six reasons to love spring chives

1. Chives have long been known as the "best spring vegetable delicacy."

2. Chives are best quality in early spring, second best in late autumn, and worst in summer.

3. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes "nourishing yang in spring and summer." Chives are an excellent vegetable and medicine for nourishing yang and dispelling cold.

4. Spring health focuses on liver care; eating more chives at this time can strengthen the spleen and stomach qi and benefit liver function.

5. Chives are also called "intestinal cleansing grass." They contain a lot of fiber—1.5 grams per 100 grams, higher than green onions and celery—which promotes intestinal peristalsis and effectively prevents habitual constipation.

People who often have cold hands and feet can eat more chives, but those prone to internal heat, with poor digestion, or recovering from serious illness should avoid chives.

In early spring during Jingzhe, throat diseases tend to increase, with symptoms like sore throat, dryness and itching, foreign body sensation when swallowing, and high incidence of gum swelling and mouth ulcers. Remember to drink some fire-clearing and heat-relieving tea regularly!

Tea ingredients: Malva nut, licorice, platycodon, honeysuckle, chrysanthemum.
